Meet the Neighbors: Dr. Anes Wiley Abraham
In honor of the Mississippi County community spirit, we would like to introduce you to Dr. Anes Wiley Abraham, a retired pediatrician with a multi-generational legacy in Mississippi County. She is the 4th generation to live in the Land of Steel; her great-grandmother and grandparents were farm workers, while her parents, aunt, brother, and daughter are educators. Dr. Abraham also has two grandchildren.
Let's get to know her a little better:
Q: Where are you from?
A: I was born in Blytheville and attended school here until college. I returned to Blytheville after college, medical school, residency and military service.
Q: What do you do for fun in Mississippi County?
A: My idea of fun at 73 is probably different than yours. I like to garden, cook and quilt.
Q: Where do you like to eat in Mississippi County?
A: I love to cook, but barbecue and fish are the things I go out to eat for. Some of my favorite restaurants are Mae’s Grill, Benny Bob’s Barbecue and Yank’s Famous Barbecue. When I want Chinese, I go to the Kowloon Chinese Restaurant.
Q: What are some of your favorite things about this area?
A: Blytheville is just home—family, friends, and church.
Q: What does a typical Saturday look like for you?
A: I start my morning by praying and doing my devotion. Weather permitting, I’ll work in the yard, meet with a youth group or club that I work with, visit a friend who is 99 years old, maybe go to the grocery store, eat pizza with neighbors, and work on a quilt.
Q: What’s something that might surprise people about Mississippi County?
A: We have a lot of delicious restaurants.
Q: Anything else you want people to know about Mississippi County?
A: I’m excited about Mississippi County’s future.
